About us

A working farm that happens to host you.

Thirty-five acres outside Shoolagiri — orchards, open fields, a lake at the edge and hills behind it.

Ecoland is thirty-five acres outside Shoolagiri — orchards, open fields, a lake at the edge and hills behind it. We grow a good part of what lands on your plate, and the rest comes from farms close enough to name.

It is a working farm first. There are crops in the ground, a tractor that gets used, and dogs who have decided the whole place belongs to them. Guests fit around that rather than the other way round, which is precisely why it feels the way it does.

There is no lobby, no schedule and no piped music. There is a fire in the evening, more stars than most people have seen in years, and someone in the kitchen who will happily make you a second breakfast.

The farm has been in the family since long before it took guests.

How we work the land

Organic, becauseit tastes better.

No chemical fertiliser and no pesticide on anything we grow for the table. It is slower and the yields are smaller, and you can taste the difference at lunch.

Composted, not dosed

Farm waste and cattle manure go back into the soil. Nothing arrives in a sack with a warning label on it.

Water that stays put

Contour bunds and a recharge pond keep the monsoon on the property instead of letting it run off to the road.

Trees before buildings

Several thousand of them planted so far. The cottages were sited around what was already growing.

Local hands

Everyone who works here lives within a few kilometres. The kitchen is run by people cooking their own food.

Skewers grilling over coals at the farm barbeque
3 mealsIncluded with every stay, cooked the same day it is picked.

The farm table

Grown here,cooked here.

No menu cards, no à la carte. You eat what the farm has that day, at a long table, with everyone else — which is most of the point.

  • MorningIdli, sambar, coconut chutney and filter coffee on the sit-out.
  • NoonA full South Indian thali under the thatch — rice, two vegetables, rasam, curd.
  • EveningTandoori grilling over the campfire, vegetarian or otherwise, cooked as you watch.
  • AnytimeFruit off the trees, tea when you want it, and a kitchen that says yes to requests.

Come and see it for yourself — most people decide within an hour of arriving.
